Licensing Standards
The Barbereux School is licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and we are fully insured according to DCFS regulations.
The Barbereux School is also accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. This is a voluntary accreditation system. Only 7% of the nation’s centers/pre-schools have achieved this honor.
The Barbereux School embraces diversity. Located near Northwestern University, we draw international students as well as children from the neighboring communities of Wilmette, Skokie, Glenview, Lincolnwood and the city of Chicago.
We are registered as a non-public school through Illinois State Board of Education and follow all necessary ISBE requirements. Click here to view our Bullying Policy.
Staff Qualifications
The Barbereux School teaching staff meets all the requirements as set forth by DCFS Regulations. In addition to state regulations we require that each Head Teacher have a two- or four-year degree in Early Childhood or similar education degree. We require that teaching assistants have some early childhood experience or are currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Each teaching staff member must complete 15 hours of in-service training each year. This training enables our staff to stay up-to-date on current practices and philosophies of education.
Every staff member is also required to have CPR/First Aid Training yearly. Each member of the kitchen staff is required to have a Food Sanitation Certificate or to be seeking one. All employees have had DCFS background checks and are fingerprinted by the State before employment.
